RetroSpek: Green Up Day
As you may know, Dwell is a church in Burlington, for Burlington; and we see the gospel as a holistic thing, pertaining to the whole person and the whole world. A couple months ago, some dwellers and some Old North End neighbors got together to help make the city a nicer place to live. Our crew took on the beltline, and made it look gooooood. Check out the pics below...
An excellent resource for fathers...and men who will be someday
In lieu of recent message content about legit spirituality and legit manhood and, of course, Father's day, check out this excellent resource from Mark Driscoll and the Resurgence.
Ya know, I've been thinking a ton about this lately because I'm gonna be a dad soon myself. It's amazing for me to think about that transition - from identifying primarily as a son and a husband to husband and father. And it's amazing to think about the impact my own dad has made on my life. If ever there was a dad who lived and worked to ensure that his children would worship "the God of their fathers", it was my dad. His incredible and loving leadership has been the most influential force in the direction my life has taken. Watching my dad live faithfully for Jesus all those years made it very hard for me to imagine any other life for myself. My dad showed me that this is the best life one can live.
I love you, Dad.
For 6/21 Podcast Listeners: surf video
Hey gang, I mentioned in the beginning of the podcast this week that I'd post that surf video we watched as an illustration on Sunday. So here it is, from rvca.com/surf (don't forget, it's pronounced "roo-kah", don't want to sound like a kook).
Podcasting Pearls
There are defining moments in life. Getting engaged. Getting married. Becoming a parent. And that most sublime of experiences: seeing the church you helped to plant show up on ITunes.
Dwell is officially a podcasting church now.
We are among only a handful of churches in VT that podcast, and the only one in the greater Burlington region. Is that a competitive statement? Well, yes and no. No, in the sense that podcasting doesn't make you any more or less a Jesus-loving, mission-crazed church; yes, in the sense that communication is essential to mission, and ITunes is the standard for communication, digitally speaking.
But, Burlington churches, we're not trying to beat you. We want you to join us. We think that Burlington needs podcasting churches. Not because my or any other pastor's words are indispensible but because any words, if they are gospel-words, may in fact be used of God for the salvation and restoration and rejuvenation of those who hear. And how will they hear without a podcaster?
Church Music for Cool Kids
Just wanted to toss out a sweet download opportunity to all you dwellers...indie rock church music from Mars Hill Seattle. Enjoy.
That's right, we launched
When I was a kid, I went to Cape Canaveral, FL, and the Kennedy Space Center, to worship at the shrine of all things NASA. I had an overall fascination with space, pretty much like any 80's kid would have, immersed as we were in the kid-culture of Return of the Jedi, Space Camp, and ALF.
(For the record, I wanted to go to space camp so dang bad.)
