The global mission of dwell church in burlington, vt.
Even the Whole World
We've made it clear that we love our city of Burlington and intend to be a missional community that serves the city, first and foremost. But our mission must have an eye towards the world.
So the final area of mission in which we are engaged is Global Ave. - yep, the world itself. If anyone thinks that this is unwise or that we should only "look after our own", our response is simple: We live in the richest, most powerful nation on the planet, and together with the wealthiest 20% of the planet's population we consume 77% of the world's goods. It is an absolute responsibility for us to begin to share with people in other countries who are living in extreme poverty.
On top of that, the Great Commission clearly teaches us to go into all the world and bring the good news - and this is a directive to support and aid the progress of the gospel beyond all of our walls, including our national walls. This gospel must go forth in powerful words from indigenous missionaries, and powerful deeds of love and justice, as well.
We are excited about a range of possibilities that are developing in our global mission; but nearest and dearest to our heart is our partnership with the Divine Ministries orphan home in Haiti, the third poorest nation on the planet. We believe that God has given Dwell a special connection - a family connection, even - with this wonderful ministry, and we intend to sacrificially support this endeavor as a community through regular sharing of money, resources, and people.
The orphan home is not an institution - it is a family home administrated and maintained by Pastor Daniel Jean and his wife; and there are now over 200 children who are provided for, loved, fed, educated, and spiritually nurtured by the Jeans and their staff. They have even planted a church right on the same property! Our close friend Bryn Gillette runs the US nonprofit called Team One:27 that "exists to broker a free and generous exchange of our American Team’s material resources and our Haitian Family’s spiritual riches" - in other words, to share material goods with them in exchange for the spiritual enrichment they bring to us. Watch out for upcoming missions trip possibilities, and check out the video below.
